About Us

Located in Lake Oswego, Oregon, Finch & Fern Organic Tea was launched in 2015 with the intention of providing tea enthusiasts with high quality, sustainably-packaged, organic, loose leaf teas.

We spend a great deal of time sourcing, selecting (and in some cases, hand-blending) our teas and we work directly with importers, all of which have USDA organic certification.

Our goal is to source the very best organic teas available to bring you fairly-priced teas that are simple and impeccable. And by choosing organic tea, you're contributing to farming practices that are healthier for you, farm workers and the planet.

About Our Packaging

All Finch & Fern teas are packaged in biodegradable Cellophane® bags (made from wood cellulose, not plastic) inside resealable Kraft bags made with 100% recycled paper and lined with Earth First® PLA, a plant-based polymer. Just remove the tin tie and label and both bags are completely compostable and biodegradable. Samples are also packaged in real Cellophane® bags. We use only cardboard boxes and paper envelopes for shipping, which we sincerely hope you will recycle.

Because Finch & Fern uses recycled/recyclable/compostable packaging, choosing our loose leaf teas over individually packaged tea bags in tea tins and plastic is an environmentally responsible choice.

Our Founder

Diana Grappasonno, founder and owner of Finch & Fern Organic Tea, has worn many hats over the course of her career. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, she worked in a crime lab for almost five years before switching gears to focus on art, design and marketing. Prior to launching Finch & Fern, she spent five years working on a variety of web, design and communication projects for her local animal shelter, where she got to meet a wide variety of loving and adorable creatures. Her goal for Finch & Fern is to offer exceptionally healthy and tasty teas, in pretty packages, with as small an ecological footprint as possible.

What's with the blend names and bird stuff?

All of our classic and herbal teas have names inspired by songs. Why? Because we like it like that.

The reason we offer only organically-farmed teas is two-fold:

  • it's healthier for you
  • it's healthier for the ecosystems where tea is grown

There are many reasons for declining bird bird populations, but one significant reason is the use of pesticides and herbicides. By supporting organic agriculture we (and you) are making a choice to help preserve and protect species and the environment. Occasionally we share information about birds because we hope to inspire people to take steps to support and protect the birds in your own little neck of the woods, even if your "woods" are urban.

Our Future

As our company grows, we are planning:

  • to earn organic certification by Oregon Tilth
  • to begin using labels printed with soy-based ink
  • to join other responsible businesses by pledging one percent for the planet
  • to bring you MORE classic and herbal organic teas to choose from

When you enjoy Finch & Fern Organic Tea, you're supporting a new company with lofty ideals and big dreams and we really appreciate your patronage. Thank you and congratulations on your awesomeness!
